nel centro storico di ortigia, contesto tranquillo, appartamento su due piani, con terrazzo verde, internet wi fi.
Me and my wife stayed in Siracusa 5 nights. It was our second time in Siracusa, first time we stayed just outside Ortigia. We came to Siracusa after touring a couple of weeks in Sicily. It was really easy to stay in touch with Donna beforehand and arrange a meeting time, she was very punctual and friendly. The apartment was perfect for us, we stayed in July and we didn't need to use air conditioners, it was enough to keep the windows open, air circulates just fine. The walls of the apartment are thick and it doesn't get hot. The apartment has spiral stairs (really loved them) up to the kitchen and terrazza. The terrace is filled with flowers and plants and it was a nice place to eat breakfast and spend some time later during the day. The appartment is situated in the beautiful side alley, there was some temporary renovation work going in the next building but it is a really quiet and nice place. We really liked this apartment.
Donna's apartment in Ortigia was lovely and she was an amazing host. The apartment was clean and included everything you'd need.
There's three small balconies, but you'll probably spend most of your time on the large rooftop terrace which opens out from the kitchen/dining area. The terrace was perfect for breakfast and a glass of wine in the evening. There's plenty of nice plants and just enough shade from the hot Sicilian sun.
The apartment has a charming, homey atmosphere. Tastefully decorated with wooden furniture, art-adorned walls, exposed beams, a quant spiral staircase and tiled floors throughout. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you need and Donna was kind enough to leave us with a bowl of limes, coffee, olive oil, herbs etc. The freezer had icepacks/ice and the rooms had air conditioning.
The apartment is in an old building perfectly located down one of Ortigia's many beautiful lanes. The apartment is a 5-10 minute walk from anywhere in Ortigia and especially close to the beautiful Piazza Duomo. A highlight for us was the wonderful market and the platform built to swim off the rocks and sunbath on. The location of the apartment couldn't be better. Street parking on the island of Ortigia isn't possible, and the nearby 'Talete' car park is quite expensive. Fortunately, Donna's apartment is a four minute walk across the bridge to an area in which street parking is free.
The historic island of Ortigia was a perfect base to explore the region. We enjoyed a day swimming in crystal clear water at Calamosche beach, and the scenic Laghetto di Cavagrande del Cassibile. It was always a pleasure to spend our evenings exploring Ortigia's picturesque lanes and piazzas filled with historic buildings, restaurants, cafes, and gelaterias. Easily one of the nicest European towns I've ever visted.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Donna's apartment and I'm sure you will too!
"Confortevole appartamento nel cuore della splendida Ortigia a pochi passi da tutti i servizi commerciali e con un comodissimo terrazzino ottimo sia per consumare i pasti all''aperto sia solo per rilassarsi.
Our host Donna was very welcoming, generous and helpful and gave us useful information.
The apartment is near the entrance to Ortigia and the Antico Mercato. It is down a quiet alley just around the corner from great restaurants, cafes & shopping. There is a good food market around the corner.
You climb 2 flights of stairs to the lower level (living room, bedrooms, bathroom). The bed was comfortable, and there were fans, heaters & a/c provided for comfort. The apartment is eclectic, with a lot of interesting art and objects.
Further, you climb a tight circular staircase to the next level which opens onto the best feature of the apartment-a large eat -in kitchen and a large rooftop outdoor terrace filled with plants. The kitchen is well equipped for those who want to self cater. The bathroom is small, with steps to the toilet, and again to the shower. If you have trouble with stairs this apartment is not for you.
We did not meet the owner, Donna, as she was out of town, but she was accessible via text and had a friend show us the place and give us an overview of where to park-extremely helpful-free parking just a 5 minute walk. Our contact with Donna from start to finish was pleasant.
All in all, a charming, reasonably priced apartment in a great location.
Donna's apartment has everything you need to enjoy a stay in Syracuse from a fullly equipped kitchen (shops very close), comfortable bed and a light-trap rooftop terrace. T,he location is superb, close to the main Ortigia streets and piazzas but quiet and peaceful at night. It's also near the bridges to access the archeological park district (maybe a 30 minute walk but with many great snacking spots along the way).. Do go to the excellent main museum - buy the joint ticket at the archeological site - to see artefacts found in the Syracuse park and the many Greek and Roman sites within the providence. Donna is a wonderful host who picked us up from the bus station and offered excellent restaurant tips and ongoing support. The weather was mixed but when the sun was out, sipping Aperol spritzs in the Piazza Duomo bathed in the beautiful Syracuse light, there truly was no better spot in Sicily.
